Michael J. Fuchs, O.D.

Dr. Fuchs' Story

Dr. Fuchs is a United States Air Force veteran who received his Doctorate of Optometry at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. After serving in the Air Force, he then served with the Department of 
Health/Indian Health Service at the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation in North Dakota.

Dr. Fuchs was also an Adjunct Professor at the Colleges of Optometry in Southern California as well as Illinois. Starting in 1996, he became an active examiner with the National Board of Examiners in Optometry of which 
he currently proctors the Clinical Skills for retinal examinations for graduating Doctors of Optometry.

In 1999, Dr. Fuchs was the first Optometrist to practice at a Duluth multidisciplinary clinic. He has been a Trustee, Chair of the Education Committee and a continued member of the Minnesota Optometric Association.

Dr. Fuchs has participated in numerous Special Olympic Vision Screenings and a humanitarian mission with iCare International.

His most recent publication was "How Do Patients Respond to Genetic Testing for Age-related Macular Degeneration" which was published in Optometry and Vision Science in March of 2018. He has lectured on Art, Eye Disease, Perception, and Eye Trauma locally at UMD, CSS, LSC, and at state and national conferences.

In addition, he enjoys discovering new adventures in the Northland, playing scrabble with the family, and an impromptu game of cribbage!
