As a specialized glaucoma practice, we have invested in state-of-the-art glaucoma equipment, including visual field machines that are faster yet more accurate than average and optic nerve scans that can help detect glaucoma earlier. We are also staffed by Dr. Aponte who has specialized training in medical and surgical glaucoma. Dr. Aponte has trained at leading institutions including Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, and the University of Iowa.

We have designed our practice and schedule with consideration to the elderly and visually impaired. We strive for convenience, keeping in mind that glaucoma can require multiple visits a year. We also value outreach clinics so our elderly patients can spend less time driving to their glaucoma visits.

Meet the Doctor
Dr. Aponte is a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist and board certified ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon who has performed thousands of eye procedures. She specializes in ophthalmology and in the evaluation and management of glaucoma, including glaucoma lasers and glaucoma surgeries.

She attended medical school at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and completed an ophthalmology residency at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland Ohio. She then pursued additional specialized training in glaucoma at the University of Iowa, a top eye hospital.

Dr. Aponte has many glaucoma publications in scientific journals. Her research in glaucoma is referenced in the Basic Science and Clinical books read by most ophthalmologists in training in the United States.

Dr. Aponte has privileges at Northwoods Surgery Center in Virginia, Fairview Range in Hibbing, Memorial Medical Center in Ashland Wisconsin and Essentia Health in Virginia.

In addition to her passion for glaucoma, Dr. Aponte enjoys Church activities with her family, mission trips to Haiti and chocolate desserts!
